.. Thracia after his death. As per the classical geographer Strabon Lyzimachus resided in the Tirizis fortress the remains of which can be still found on the Cape Kaliakra. As per the same source the governor-claimant of Thracia kept there his exchequer and treasures. This little piece of information was ‘crusified’ by the treasure hunters and is still bothering their sleep. What if the biggest part of the treasures is still in the caves of Kaliakra? The Tiziris fortification has been consecutively used by Tracians, Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians. Recently, in the area of Kaliakra still can be found some ruins and remains from these ancient settlements. There are archeological subjests which date back to the Bronze age. Most of the artifacts are exposed in a small museum. side that, in the Cape can be visited the attractive lighthouse, the radio navigation emitter, the meteorological station and the chapel of St. Nicholas. On the right shore of Cape Kaliakra, an alley descends from the fortress down to the two-stories restaurant, built in of a cave, with 160 seats inside and 200 open-air seats. Kaliakra is announced to be a protected area. The area is popular because of the dolphins and the big variety of sea birds nesting on the rocks. The great richness of flora and fauna in the area of Cape Kaliakra is mostly due to the clean ecologic zone, untouched by the human activity and so its beauty was kept. Kaliakra is one of the first protected areas in Bulgaria, announced as a nature reserve in 1941 . The whole reserve spreads on the area of 687.5 hectares. Kaliakra is the only reserve in Bulgaria which includes also a protected sea area. This site is a part of the national movement 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria, established in the 1966.
